One of our most popular concerts of the season, He and She showcases the Durango Women's Choir and the Fort Lewis College Men's Choir as we offer our audience music from every corner of the musical universe. Our traditional musical battle of the sexes will feature music ranging from chant to Broadway. Come laugh, sigh, and revel in the beauty and joy as the Durango Choral Society opens its 2010–2011 season.


Ancient to Modern:
Masterpieces for Choir and Organ

This beautiful concert will feature our choirs with Durango's only tracker pipe organ, played by the Durango Choral Society's own C. Scott Hagler. The major work on the program is French composer Maurice Duruflé's magnificent Requiem, based on Gregorian Chant overlaid with rich, lush harmonies and an unforgettable dialogue between choir and organ. In addition, the Durango Women's Choir will perform Chant by Hildegard Von Bingen and Sergei Rachmaninoff. This will be the first performance of Duruflé's Requiem in Durango, and this rare event is not to be missed by any lover of beautiful, significant choral music. Due to limited seating at St. Mark's, this concert will sell out very quickly so get your tickets as soon as possible.

Our annual holiday extravaganza, with all three DCS choirs participating in a special celebration of our own hometown. Your family, friends, and neighbors present another rousing celebration of the season in a program that will guarantee smiles and spirit! Jazz it up and class it up with Santa, our own jazz combo and friends. This year's concert will feature audience sing-alongs, fun for the children, and some special holiday surprises! Only one show this year – get your tickets early!

The Durango Choral Society, the Durango Women's Choir and the Fort Lewis College Chamber Choir present settings of the beloved, timeless prayers Ave Maria and Magnificat. The music will range from familiar settings by the great masters Franz Schubert and Josquin DesPrez to a modern arrangement composed by a contemporary nun. You will be surrounded by singers in celebration of the great acoustics at the Methodist Church for a stunning finale featuring double chorus in a serenely beautiful Ave Maria by Austrian composer Franz Biebl.

The Durango Children's Chorale presents a performance of musical storytelling. Come and hear our talented young artists express themselves in song in a wide range of styles, moods, and sentiments. The Durango Choral Society performs with Farmington's Caliente and the San Juan Symphony in an exciting, rhythmic blend of the sacred and the profane. Carl Orff's Carmina Burana spins tales of love, nature, and earthly pleasures with lyric beauty and pulsating frenzy.

The Durango Choral Society completes our romp through the season with great music and elegant cuisine, and the company of your friends and neighbors! Our talented singers will perform favorites ranging from Broadway to Opera while you enjoy hors d'oeuvres buffet and drinks. The Cabaret is our major fund raiser for the year, so come out and support your talented friends, neighbors, and family members as we strive to continue our tradition of musical excellence throughout the year.
